Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy / Liability Notice / Disclaimer:

The operator of this website takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the statutory data protection regulations and this privacy policy.

Objective
This privacy policy clarifies the nature, scope, and purpose of the processing (including collection, processing, and use, including consent) of personal and other data within our online offering and the associated websites, functions, and content (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “online offering” or “website”). The privacy policy applies regardless of the domains, systems, platforms, and devices (e.g., desktop or mobile) used to run the online offering.

What is personal data?
The term “personal data” is defined in the Federal Data Protection Act. According to this, it refers to individual details about the personal or factual circumstances of an identified or identifiable natural person. This includes, for example, your real name, your address, your telephone number, or your date of birth.
As a rule, it is possible to use our website without providing personal data. Insofar as personal data (e.g., name, address, or email addresses) is collected on our website, this is always done on a voluntary basis as far as possible.

No data transfers to third parties
Your data will not be transferred to third parties unless we are legally obliged or entitled to do so, or you have expressly consented to this.
We would like to point out that data transmission over the Internet (e.g., when communicating by email) may be subject to security vulnerabilities. It is not possible to completely
protect data from access by third parties.

Right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority
In the event of violations of data protection law, the data subject has the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. The competent supervisory authority for data protection issues is the state data protection officer of the federal state in which our company is based. A list of data protection officers and their contact details can be found at the following link: https://www.bfdi.bund.de/DE/Infothek/Anschriften_Links/anschriften_links-node.html.

Right to data portability
You have the right to have data that we process automatically on the basis of your consent or in fulfillment of a contract handed over to you or to a third party in a common, machine-readable format. If you request the direct transfer of the data to another controller, this will only be done if it is technically feasible.

Right to information, deletion, blocking
You have the right to receive information free of charge at any time about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of data processing, as well as the right to correct, block, or delete this data. You can contact us at any time at the address given in the legal notice if you have any further questions on the subject of personal data.

Right to object to data collection in specific cases and to direct marketing (Art. 21 GDPR)
If data processing is based on Art. 6 (1) (e) or (f) GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation; this also applies to profiling based on these provisions. The respective legal basis on which processing is based can be found in this privacy policy. If you object, we will no longer process your personal data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing that override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or the processing serves to assert, exercise, or defend legal claims (objection pursuant to Art. 21 (1) GDPR).

If your personal data is processed for direct marketing purposes, you have the right to object at any time to the processing of personal data concerning you for such marketing purposes; this also applies to profiling insofar as it is related to such direct marketing. If you object, your personal data will no longer be used for direct marketing purposes (objection pursuant to Art. 21 (2) GDPR).

Right to restriction of processing
You have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data. To do so, you can contact us at any time at the address given in the legal notice.

The right to restriction of processing applies in the following cases:

  • If you dispute the accuracy of your personal data stored by us, we usually need time to verify this. For the duration of the verification, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.
  • If the processing of your personal data was/is unlawful, you can request the restriction of data processing instead of deletion.
  • If we no longer need your personal data, but you need it to exercise, defend, or assert legal claims, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data instead of deletion.
  • If you have lodged an objection pursuant to Art. 21 (1) GDPR, a balance must be struck between your interests and ours. As long as it is not yet clear whose interests prevail, you have the right to request that the processing of your personal data be restricted.

If you have restricted the processing of your personal data, this data may – apart from its storage – only be processed with your consent or for the assertion, exercise, or defense of legal claims or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest of the European Union or a Member State.

Cookies
Some of our web pages use cookies. Cookies do not harm your computer and do not contain viruses. Cookies serve to make our website more user-friendly, effective, and secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and saved by your browser. Most of the cookies we use are so-called “session cookies.” They are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Other cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognize your browser the next time you visit.

You can set your browser so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and only allow cookies in individual cases, exclude the acceptance of cookies for certain cases or in general, and activate the automatic deletion of cookies when you close your browser. If you deactivate cookies, the functionality of this website may be restricted.

Server log files
The provider of the pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These are:

  • Browser type and browser version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL
  • Host name of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request

This data cannot be assigned to specific persons. This data is not merged with other data sources. IP addresses are only stored to the extent necessary to provide our services. Otherwise, IP addresses are deleted or anonymized. Our provider stores your IP address for a maximum of 7 days when you visit our website for the purpose of detecting and defending against attacks. We reserve the right to check this data retrospectively if we become aware of specific indications of illegal use.

Use of jQuery
On this page, we use jQuery technologies, which optimize loading speeds and enable certain functions to be offered. In this regard, program libraries from Google servers are accessed. We use Google’s CDN (content delivery network) or jQuery. If you have previously used jQuery on another page from Google CDN or jQuery, your browser will use the copy stored in the cache. If this is not the case, a download is required, whereby data is transferred from your browser to the provider. Your data will be transferred to the USA. You can find more information on the providers’ websites.

Contact
We collect personal data when you provide it to us voluntarily, for example when you contact us. We will, of course, use the personal data transmitted to us in this way exclusively for the purpose for which you provided it to us when contacting us. This information helps us to specify your request and improve the processing of your concern. This information is provided expressly on a voluntary basis and with your consent. Insofar as this information relates to communication channels (e.g., email address, telephone number), you also consent to us contacting you via this communication channel in order to respond to your request.

You can, of course, revoke your consent at any time with future effect. Please contact us for this purpose.

Duration of storage
We will only store your contact and traffic data for as long as is necessary for our services. If the data is required to fulfill existing legal, statutory, or contractual retention periods (e.g., invoices), this data will also be stored beyond this period in accordance with the legal requirements.

Security
We have taken extensive technical and organizational precautions to protect your data from accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction, or access by unauthorized persons. Our security procedures are regularly reviewed and adapted to technological progress. We use authentication and authorization procedures to ensure, as far as possible, that unauthorized persons do not have access to your personal data or use services that are reserved for you.

SSL encryption
This site uses SSL encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as requests you send to us as the site operator. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in your browser line.

When SSL encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

Objection to advertising emails
We hereby object to the use of contact data published within the scope of the legal notice obligation for sending unsolicited advertising and information material. The operators of the website expressly reserve the right to take legal action in the event of unsolicited advertising information being sent, for example via spam emails.

Links to other websites
Our online offering contains links to other websites. We have no influence on whether their operators comply with data protection regulations.

Social media links
We have our own social media pages with third-party providers that can be accessed via links from this website. By using the links, you will be taken to the respective websites of the third-party providers (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Google+). Once you have accessed the third-party provider’s website, you are in the area of responsibility of the respective third-party provider, so that their privacy policy or their statements on data use also apply. We have no influence on this, but to avoid unnecessary data transfer, we recommend that you log out of the respective third-party provider before using a corresponding link so that the third-party provider cannot create usage profiles simply by using the link.

Online presence on social media
We have established an online presence on social networks in order to communicate with users, interested parties, and customers via these channels and to inform them about our editorial offerings, current events, and our services.

In this context, we would like to point out that the data of users of these sites may be processed by the provider of the respective service outside the European Union. This may result in risks for users, as it could make it more difficult for them to enforce their rights, for example. With regard to US providers certified under the EU-US Privacy Shield, we would also like to point out that they have committed themselves to complying with EU data protection standards.

In addition, the data of social network users is usually processed for market research and advertising purposes. This means that user profiles are created based on usage behavior and the preferences and interests derived from it. Such user profiles can ultimately be used, for example, to place advertisements within the corresponding social network and on other online platforms that match the presumed interests of the respective user. In doing so, so-called cookies (small text files) are usually stored on users’ devices, which can be used to collect data on users’ usage behavior and bundle it for further processing to determine interests. The collection and bundling of this data can also be carried out across multiple devices used by a user, especially for logged-in members of the respective social network.

The processing of personal user data is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing effective information and direct communication with the users of our services in accordance with Art. 6 (1) lit. f. GDPR. If users are asked by the respective service providers for their consent to data processing and have signaled their consent by checking a box or clicking a button provided for this purpose, the legal basis for processing is Art. 6 (1) lit. a, Art. 7 GDPR.

In the event of requests for information or the exercise of other user rights, we would like to point out that such requests should be addressed directly to the providers of the respective service. Only they have access to the stored data, can provide the relevant information, and take further action if necessary. However, if users need help exercising their rights, they can also contact us.

A detailed description of the data processing carried out by the providers of the social networks we use and the corresponding options for opting out can be found in the information provided by the respective provider:

Wordfence Security
To secure our online offering, we use the “Wordfence Security” service, which is operated by Defiant Inc., 800 5th Ave., Suite 4100, Seattle, WA 98104, USA. The use of this service is based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. f) GDPR.
The website uses the plug-in to protect against viruses and malware and to defend against attacks by computer criminals. The plug-in uses cookies to detect whether a visitor is a human or a robot. IP addresses are stored on the Wordfence servers for the purpose of protecting against brute force and DDoS attacks or comment spam. IP addresses classified as harmless are placed on a white list. Wordfence Security secures our website and thus protects visitors to the website from viruses and malware. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. The plugin’s “Participate in the Real-Time Wordfence Security Network” option is disabled as it is not strictly necessary.

For more information on the collection and use of data by Wordfence Security, please refer to Defiant’s privacy policy: https://www.wordfence.com/privacy-policy/

Changes to the privacy policy
We reserve the right to change the privacy policy in order to adapt it to changed legal situations or in the event of changes to the online offer or data processing. However, this only applies to statements regarding data processing. If user consent is required or if parts of the privacy policy contain provisions governing the contractual relationship with users, changes will only be made with the consent of the users. Users are therefore asked to regularly review the content of the privacy policy, especially if they provide personal information again.
